After numerous upgrades, it’s time for a major transformation in both looks and performance for our Grasshopper. The theme for this installment is a “Stadium Truck Conversion.” We’ll be fitting wheels and tires from the Blitzer Beetle, which will also give us a wider track for improved handling.
The Parts We’re Using
Here are the components for our stadium truck conversion:
- Blitzer Beetle Wheels: They come in a vibrant orange, but we have other plans for them.
- Blitzer Beetle Rear Tires (SP-450): The large pin spikes should provide excellent grip.
- Blitzer Beetle Front Tires (SP-449): A classic rib pattern for great steering control.

Assembly and Wheel Painting
First, let’s do a test fit of the tires on the wheels. The stock orange color is certainly unique.

To achieve our desired look, we’re painting the wheels with Tamiya’s TS-6 Matt Black spray paint.
▼ The wheels after painting. The matt black finish gives them a much more aggressive appearance.
▼ With the tires mounted on the freshly painted wheels, the final look is revealed. The all-black setup is incredibly aggressive.
Swapping the Front Uprights
To properly mount the Blitzer Beetle’s front wheels, which use a different bearing size, we need to swap the stock uprights. We’re using uprights from the Tamiya Lunch Box, a classic trick for this conversion.
The Transformation is Complete!
Here is the final result from the front. The new stance is far more aggressive than stock. The wider track width not only looks great but will also significantly improve stability.
Here’s an angled shot to appreciate the new look. The wide tires and lower stance work perfectly with the classic Grasshopper body.
That concludes this round of upgrades. Our Grasshopper has evolved to a new level in both aesthetics and potential performance. We can’t wait for the next shakedown run!
