After numerous upgrades, we’re now chasing the next level of performance for our Grasshopper. For this installment, the theme is achieving the ultimate “low-down” setup. By lowering the ride height, we aim to reduce the center of gravity and significantly improve cornering stability.
Catch up on the previous CVA damper installations:
The Key to a Lower Stance
Here is the essential part for this modification: the Tamiya “CVA Super Mini Shock Unit Set.”
This is the shortest CVA damper available. We assembled it with a 7mm internal spacer to get the perfect length.

Front Damper Swap: Mini to Super Mini
Let’s get straight to the installation, starting with the front end.
We’ve swapped out the CVA Mini shocks used previously and installed the new Super Mini shocks.
The drop in ride height is immediately noticeable, giving the buggy a much more aggressive look.

Rear Damper Swap: Short to Mini
Next, we’ll adjust the rear to match the new front stance.
We’ve replaced the CVA Short shocks with CVA Mini shocks. This combination perfectly balances the chassis, providing an ideal, slightly raked posture.

The Low-Down Look is Complete!
With all the shocks swapped, the modification is complete.
The entire buggy now has an aggressive, low-slung racing stance. This lower center of gravity should provide a dramatic increase in handling and stability.
We are extremely happy with the aggressive new look. The next track test can’t come soon enough!
