Tamiya Grasshopper Ultimate Customization: Front Wide Tread Conversion for Stability!

Build Diary

The suspension upgrades don’t stop! This time, we’re widening the front tread. The goal is to gain more stability, especially during cornering. We’re very excited to see how this changes the buggy’s handling.

The Part We’re Using

Here is the key component for this modification. It’s an aluminum knuckle set from Eagle Racing called the “AL Front Extend Knuckle +5mm.” This will widen the stance by 5mm on each side, for a total of 10mm.

Unboxing and Instructions

Here’s what you get inside the package. These are high-precision CNC machined aluminum parts, and the blue anodized finish is gorgeous. The included instructions make for a straightforward installation.

Front Knuckle Installation Process

First, here is a look at the front end before the swap. We have our oil dampers installed, but the track width is still stock.

Next, we’ll remove the wheels and the stock plastic uprights (knuckles). This exposes the axle shafts, ready for the new parts.

And here are the new aluminum uprights installed. The matching blue parts create a very cohesive look. They also feel much more rigid than the stock plastic pieces.

With the wheels back on, the job is complete. You can clearly see how much wider the front stance is now. It has a much more aggressive and planted look. This should provide a significant boost in cornering stability.

Conclusion

Today, we successfully completed the front wide tread conversion. This upgrade not only adds to the aggressive look of the buggy but also enhances its performance. It’s a simple part swap that promises a big effect. We highly recommend giving it a try.
