My 3rd RC Car! Why I Chose Tamiya “The Frog” and Electronics Setup

Build Diary

Choosing My 3rd Machine: Why “The Frog”?

I spent a long time deciding which RC car would be my third addition to the collection. The final candidates were the Tamiya “The Frog” and the “Wild One Off-Roader.”

Both are legendary Tamiya buggies, but I eventually decided on The Frog. Its unique space-frame chassis and iconic suspension design were the deciding factors for me.

Unboxing a Legend: The Thrill of the Box Art

▲ The dynamic box art that continues to captivate RC fans across generations.

The moment you hold this box, you feel the history of the 80s RC boom. It is truly one of Tamiya’s most symbolic off-road machines.

▲ The packaging is beautifully organized, including the famous frog-patterned inner box.

Checking the components inside is one of the most blissful parts of the hobby. Every part looks like a piece of mechanical art.

The Electronics Setup (Purchased on Amazon)

I sourced all the necessary electronics from Amazon, focusing on a balance of performance and cost-effectiveness.

ESCHOBBYWING QuicRUN-WP-1060
Servo20kg High-Torque Digital Servo

Receiver: UltraPower C4SF-HV

▲ An S-FHSS compatible receiver that works perfectly with Futaba transmitters.

I chose this again because it proved to be highly reliable in my previous build. Its compact size is ideal for the Frog’s tight electronics bay.

ESC: HOBBYWING QuicRUN-WP-1060

▲ The gold standard for brushed motor ESCs. Fully waterproof and reliable.

For off-road driving, this ESC is a must-have. It’s incredibly user-friendly and handles dirt and moisture without any issues.

Servo: Budget 20kg Digital Servo

▲ My first time trying this budget-friendly, high-torque digital servo.

Despite the low price, the specs are impressive. I’m excited to see how this 20kg torque servo improves the steering response of the buggy.

Summary: Can’t Wait to Build!

I believe I made the best choice for my third RC car. I’m looking forward to the assembly process and seeing this iconic frog jump again!

I will be posting build updates soon, so stay tuned to the blog!
