DT-04 Rear-End Conversion

To mount the new gearbox, I utilized the E-parts from the Hornet Evo.

This allows the DT-04 rear unit to sit perfectly on the Grasshopper chassis.

Switching to oil dampers means no more bouncing on rough terrain.
The mechanical detail looks amazing and adds so much character.
Body Modifications for Clearance
Trimming was required to provide enough room for the suspension travel.Removed material around the shock towers to prevent interference.

I shaved off the sections where the dampers hit the body shell.
This ensures the shocks can reach full stroke without any rubbing.

The larger gearbox also required some careful trimming of the rear body.
Custom clearance was achieved through precise hobby knife work.
Tire Selection and Final Reveal

For the rear, I chose high-traction spike tires for off-road dominance.
This setup drastically improves traction during acceleration.

I finished the look with wide grooved tires on the front.
My ideal Grasshopper—wide, low, and fast—is finally complete!
Conclusion
The DT-04 rear conversion pushes this classic buggy into a new performance league.
Utilizing Hornet Evo parts was the key to this successful build.
I can’t wait to take it out for its first shakedown run!
