[Record Broken] Grasshopper Hits 51.2km/h! The Power of DT-04 Conversion

GrassHopper

Building on the previous speed run, I aimed for a new personal best.

With major suspension upgrades, I took the Grasshopper back to the park.

We’ve finally reached a new level of performance with this classic buggy.

Key Modifications for the Speed Run

The current Grasshopper setup. The chassis is becoming quite a high-spec beast.

I focused on improving stability at high speeds through these changes:

Upgraded to Tamiya Wide Grooved Tires (OP-1284) for better front-end grip.

Changing the front tires provided much-needed steering feel.

This was crucial for maintaining a straight line at full throttle.

The rear now features the DT-04 suspension swap detailed in my previous post.

The DT-04 Rear Assembly conversion is now fully dialed in.

It absorbs bumps perfectly, keeping the power on the ground.

Full Throttle: Speed Test at the Park

Running at the park. The improved suspension keeps the car stable even at peak velocity.

The modifications paid off immediately.

The car was far more composed during hard acceleration.

The brushless power is now effectively translated into speed.

The Result: Breaking the 50km/h Barrier!

A new record of 51.2 km/h! We finally broke into the 50s.

The GPS speedometer clocked a top speed of **51.2 km/h**!

This shatters my previous record of 44.3 km/h.

Hitting these speeds with a Grasshopper is an incredible feeling.

Conclusion

The DT-04 conversion and tire choice were the keys to success.

Improved stability allowed me to keep the trigger pulled until the end.

I’ll continue to refine this build and see how much further we can go!
