[Custom] Grasshopper Wide Tread Mod with BBX Tires & All-Black Look

I’m updating the style and performance of my Tamiya Grasshopper.

This time, I’ve fitted tires from the modern “BBX” model.

I also painted the body all-black for a clean, stealthy look.

Choosing Wheels and Tires

I used the Tamiya “Hornet 1-Piece Large Diameter Wheels (OP.2077).”

I painted the wheels in matte black to match the overall theme.

The contrast between the black wheels and the tires is very sharp.

Key Mod: Deep Rim Wide Tread Stance

The front view highlights the aggressive stance of the large-diameter tires.
Diagonal view of the build. The all-black theme is very cohesive.

I utilized the standard Grasshopper hex hubs for this installation.

These wheels feature a deep-rim offset, which increases the total tread width.

Standard hubs are used in the rear, gaining width through the wheel offset.
The front tread width is also expanded due to the wheel design.

Both front and rear tracks are now wider than the stock configuration.

Rear view from above. This combines perfectly with my previous wide-tread mod.

Final Build: Sleek All-Black Stance

The black-on-black bodywork creates a tough, minimal aesthetic.
Side profile view. A simple but iconic look for the Grasshopper.

The monochromatic paint job highlights the mechanical details of the chassis.

This big-tire silhouette brings a fresh feel to the classic Grasshopper.
