[Custom] Installing Tamiya Big Bore Aeration Dampers (OP.1504/OP.1505) on DT-04

Customize

To further enhance the off-road performance of the DT-04, I’m upgrading the suspension.

Today, I am installing Tamiya’s high-end “Big Bore Aeration Dampers.”

Let’s look at the installation steps for the front (OP.1504) and rear (OP.1505).

Choosing the Big Bore AR Dampers

The “OP.1504 (Front)” and “OP.1505 (Rear)” sets used for this build.

For detailed product specifications, please check the following previous articles:

Installing OP.1504 on the Front

The OP.1504 dampers successfully installed on the DT-04 front end.
The upper part of the damper is secured using a 3mm screw.

I am using Eagle Model upper arms on the front suspension.

However, this setup causes physical interference between the damper and the arm.

Added spacers to the upper arm mounting point to ensure proper clearance.

Adding spacers successfully prevents binding and ensures smooth movement.

Installing OP.1505 on the Rear

The rear end equipped with the OP.1505 damper set.
Just like the front, the upper rear damper is fixed with a 3mm screw.

The rear dampers are firmly secured to deliver stable damping force.

Final Assembly and Conclusion

The complete DT-04 chassis featuring front and rear Big Bore dampers.

Upgrading to full Big Bore dampers transforms the DT-04 into a serious racer.

It vastly improves rough-terrain handling and cornering stability.

If you’re looking to take your DT-04 to the next level, this upgrade is a must-try!
