Following my DT-04 rear assembly custom, I made a big decision.
I have reverted the machine back to its original Grasshopper gearbox.
I want to achieve the absolute top speed in the Grasshopper’s authentic form.
Returning to Basics & Long Wheelbase Conversion

I didn’t just go back to stock; I added some crucial upgrades.
I installed the Eagle Model “AL Rear Axle Stay (GHOPPER-02U).”

This allows for a long wheelbase configuration.
The goal is to reduce wobbling when hitting peak speeds.
Optimizing the Suspension

The rear shocks are Tamiya CVA Damper Minis (SP.519).
They effectively handle bumps and maintain tire traction.

I repurposed Tamiya Hornet parts for the shock mounts.
This ensures smooth movement of the suspension linkage.
Improving Straight-Line Stability

To improve high-speed handling, I added weight to the front.
The 30g ballast helps keep the front tires planted.
The Result: A New Personal Best for the Original Gearbox!

The clock stopped at **45.4 km/h** in our park speed test.
I successfully beat the previous original gearbox record of 44.3 km/h!
However, it didn’t quite reach the 51.2 km/h record set by the DT-04 hybrid.
Conclusion & Future Goals
I am happy to have set a new record for this original gearbox configuration.
I truly believe in the potential of this authentic setup.
My next goal is to beat 51.2 km/h with this Grasshopper. Stay tuned!
